WHEN GOD TAKES AWAY: A BIBLICAL PERSPECTIVE
Job 1:21 and 2 Corinthians 12:7-10

INTRODUCTION
Bible men and women have had things taken away from them
- The garden of Eden – Adam and family
- Abraham – food and child-bearing ability
- David – security, family loyalty – loss of a child
- Joseph – family loyalty – a job
- Job – children, property, health and loyalty of wife
- Jesus – glory, comfort, friendship, life
- Paul – religious pride, health.

DOES GOD TAKE AWAY?
Yes!
- Job 1:21 – the Lord gave and the Lord has taken away
- - Genesis 15:13 – Know for certain that your descendants shall be strangers in a country not
their own and will be enslaved and mistreated 400 years.
- Genesis 50:19-20 – You intended to harm me but God intended it for good … the saving of many
lives.
- Exodus 4:11 “Who makes him deaf, or blind or mute? Is it not I the Lord?”
- John 9:1-4 – This (blindness) happened so that “the works of God would be made manifest.”
- Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away but He said to me “My grace is sufficient for
you for my power is made perfect in weakness.”

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN GOD TAKES AWAY?
- We deny His involvement and dissociate Him from taking away
- We claim His non-existence or His impotence
- We blame other people and society
- We blame ourselves
- We blame the devil or his demons
- We become indifferent

WHAT SHOULD WE DO WHEN GOD TAKES AWAY?
- Accept His will and worship Him like Job
- Pray for His will to be done like Jesus did
- Understand the sufficiency of His grace
- Know that He has higher purposes than our own
- Remember that all evil and pain will be wiped away according to Revelation 21:1-4.
